Helpful Tools For Sourdough Bread Making
Hey everyone! For people who are just getting into Sourdough, I wanted to list all my favorite and very helpful tools for most specifically Sourdough bread making and "feeding" sourdough starters. But all of these tool are great for Sourdough in general!
Wooden kitchen spoons are very helpful for sourdough starters and sourdough bread making, because if you use any kind of metal on sourdough, it will kill the natural yeasts. They also work very easily as a quick measuring spoon, because when you have a mature starter, you just have to keep you starter "pancake" consistency, so you don't have to do any exact measurements.
Banneton Basket is what you use to shape your bread, this is pretty critical for bread making.
Bread Bench Scraper is one of my favorite tools for bread making. When you make bread, you have to use your counter top a lot, so lots of dough and floury paste collects on your counter tops, with a Bench Scraper you can easily scrap it off. I is also helpful when you have to move you bread from counter to banneton.
Sourdough Whisk is extremely helpful for mixing your sourdough starter and when making bread, for mixing ingredients together. Even though it is metal, sourdough does fine with this special metal!
Bread Scoring Knife is very nice to have if your a bread maker, this is what you use to make beautiful patterns in your loafs, as well as release air from the bread in the baking process.
Tea Towels are helpful for when your bread is in the rising or fermenting process. You can wet them and cover your bread to prevent them from forming a "skin".
Sourdough Starter Jars are so great for keeping you starter in, starters grow and grow and you never know how big their going to get. I personally have these jars and my starter has never overflowed and I never have to worry if its getting to big.
There you have it! My favorite sourdough tool for successful bread and sourdough making.
